For those who watch the tv show Heroes, “save the cheerleader” was a part-time mantra for many weeks. But for Nicholas D’Agosto, 20-year old Omaha native, that cheerleader has become his television girlfriend. D’Agosto has joined the cast of Heroes for it’s second season to play West, Claire’s new girlfriend.
Having gotten his audition just three days before he began filming the pilot episode, D’Agosto’s life has been a whirlwind ever since, filled with interviews, superpowers, and loving his moment in the sun. Not his first acting gig, D’Agosto was cast by Alexander Payne in Election, and then later was replaced by Jason Schwartzman for the tv show Cracking Up.

One of my favorite traditions here in Omaha is our yearly Shakespeare On The Green festival, held from summer solstice into the first few weeks of July every year. This year’s festivities kicked off last night, although I didn’t make it. Tonite, however, I will join the thousands that migrate to Elmwood Park to see some innovative and always wonderful productions.
This season’s productions will include King Henry V, running from June 21-24 and July 5 and 7, and The Taming of the Shrew, running from June 28-July 1 and July 6 and 8.
Several new features to the festival have also been implemented this year, including performing in the round. Nebraska Shakespeare, the organization responsible for the festival, is constantly improving upon plans, and has also decided to offer three stages of entertainment this year. The main stage will house the performance of the two plays, while
the other two stages will handle Camp Shakespeare, seminars, and musical performers.
Always an enjoyable time, I’ll be there early and with my camera, so don’t be afraid to pose for a picture or two!

Today I bring you two pictures of some casual wear I’ve seen running all over Omaha lately.

The casual look around Omaha has stepped up a notch, with button-downs moving from a work-only wardrobe choice. I’ve seen guys of all ages walking around the Old Market lately in just such an outfit, sleeves rolled up and sandals on while still looking dressy enough to enter just about any restaurant or other establishment without worry of missing on the dress code.

One of the keys to pulling of this dressed-down yet stylish look is in the details. Sandals are okay, but with the leather (or faux leather) straps, they are much dressier and can be worn casual or fancy. That’s what I love about not only what Mike is wearing, but about the look overall. Stylish indeed!

Lyndsey over at “Lez Keep It Real” posted about a truly sad event in Indiana, one which happened several months ago and yet has not been on the national news AT ALL. Makes me angry, and makes me want to share the story.
This weekend I was lucky enough to get to a College World Series game, and had a great time. It’s nice to live in Omaha, because many businesses give tickets to employees, and many families and friends buy season tickets to the two-week event, so there’s always a way to get out of sitting in general admission (and standing in that horrid line to get in). I went to the Miss St vs. Carolina game, and while it was super hot, the breeze was nice and i got to take a few decent pictures.

Any attempt to park close to the stadium is insanity, so most people who have been to a game once or twice know to find parking in the neighborhoods surrounding the stadium. And if you park to the north, chances are you’ll see the above sign as you walk towards the stadium.

The afformentioned general admission line. Now, I went on a Friday night, but if you go to a game during the week during the day, the line is nowhere near this bad.

Finally, this statue is a constant reminder to all those in Omaha of the tradition that oozes out of this stadium. After these two whirlwind weeks, when all the college baseball fans head back home with fond memories of Rosenblatt and Omaha, we are left to go back to our minor league games. But we’ll always have this statue, just outside the front gates, to remind us of our two weeks of baseball glory every year.

CWS Day One!
And that photo at the top? It’s a great picture of the fireworks, taken last night from the rooftop of one of the downtown apartments!
It’s that time of year again in Omaha. Invaded by college-age men and their families, along with several thousand rabbid baseball fans, Omaha becomes the home of the College World Series for the 57th year! To kick things off, I’m throwing trivia up today, along with some pictures from years past. As the series progresses, I’ll continue with the trivia, some stats from the games, along with many more pictures. If you head to one of the games and snap some shots, send them on over to me at “robyn.charles@gmail.com” and I’ll include them in a future post (with proper credit given).

A day late, but still great shots of a couple of fashionable Omahans.

First up is Connie, capturing the wonder that is summer in Omaha. Love her bright orange tank, and Lisa of The Icon had this to say: “Loving her longer pixie shape with lots of texture throughout with scattered honey blonde hilights to accentuate the layers!”
Here’s a closer look at those amazing layers! I must admit, I’ve rocked this sort of cut a time or two, and love how easy it is.

Also joining the ranks of the Fashionable Omaha group today is Chris. Personally, I love the thrifty-goodness of the shirt, the scuffed up boots, and the all-around look he’s pulling off.

The Icon ladies had this to say: “Gotta love the modern shaggy shape with lots of texture. The layers are arranged on his head shape so that it could fall exactly into place naturally.”
The perfect cut for every guy! Lets take a closer look at the detail in his shirt, just for me!

so, i’m taking the day off. maybe just the morning. but with good reason … it’s my birthday today and i’m going to celebrate it by sitting on the couch and watching trashy tee-vee!
Much more than corn fields and Husker football fans, Omaha is a city on the rise, with a population exploding, a music scene to rival Seattle, and a charm all its own. Touted as begin a "big city with a small town feel", you'll be able to find tons of great information here, from the history of this city to what makes it so great today.
